A GROUP of open spaces in Bury are up for sale by the council with any proceeds feeding into the budget.

A total of 14 plots of land are on sale representing approximately 10,638 sq m of land across the borough.

Around half of the plots are small areas of land.

A spokesman for Bury Council said: "We regularly review the assets we own to see if any are surplus to requirements.

"These are often small pieces of open space which, for instance, are adjacent to residential properties. "Homeowners, for example, may wish to buy the plot of land in order to extend their garden or build an extension."

Eight of the plots are larger open spaces between 325 sq m and 3,483 sq m.

These are land in Outwood Road and Ashcombe Drive, Radcliffe; Fellside Close and Greenheys Crescent, Tottington; Whitefield Road and Walmersley Road, Bury and Chapel Road, Prestwich.

Money raised by the sale of these lots would be fed into the council budget.

A spokesman for the council clarified the intention to dispose of the land by Bury Council is in no way related to the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework.

The council spokesman said: "We must advertise any proposal to dispose of public land, which we do in the Bury Times, in order that any objections can be heard.

"We do not know how much money will be raised by this particular sale – it all depends on whether people wish to buy the land and for how much.

"All proceeds will go into council budgets."

Interested parties should contact the council directly.
