RESIDENTS in the borough are invited to learn more about reducing the area’s flood risk at two community drop-in sessions in Radcliffe and Redvales this week.

The sessions, held by the Environmental Agency and Bury Council, will provide an opportunity for local residents to discuss the project, find out more about what is likely to be involved and how long it will take.

Work has been ongoing since January to look at the various options available of reducing the flood risk in both Radcliffe and Redvales.

Pete Costello, Environment Agency area flood and coastal risk manager, said: “We are again inviting members of the community to come along and learn more about the work we plan to progress, share their views and thoughts on our plans and continue to be involved as the project develops.

“We are also encouraging anyone affected by flooding to come along and talk to us. We will have technical experts from the Environment Agency and Bury Council available with advice and support.

“With one in six properties in England at risk of flooding and extreme weather becoming ever more common, it is important that we all take simple steps to become more resilient.

“Measures including, preparing a kit of essential items and storing important documents like passports in a safe place can go a long way in an emergency.

“With just a few clicks you can also check your flood risk online and sign up to flood alerts and warnings online.

"You can also register or update your details by calling Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or follow @EnvAgency and #floodaware on Twitter for the latest flood updates.”

The first session will be on Tuesday, April 25 at Radcliffe Parish Church of St Mary in Church Green.

The second drop-in session will take place on Thursday, April 27 at Radcliffe Road Baptist Church, Redvales.

Both sessions will run from 4pm to 7pm.
