HUNDREDS of young pirates came ashore at Mill Gate Shopping Centre in the hope of joining Captain Jack Sparrow’s crew.

Captain Jack was the star of Pirate Day at Mill Gate, organised by the shopping centre to entertain youngsters during the May school holidays.

The lookalike Jack swaggered around the mall meeting fans and retailers, and was a hit with shoppers of all ages.

Comedy duo The Pirates of Menspants anchored their trusty ship outside TJ Hughes to perform four shows.

The two dashing, sea shanty-singing pirates entertained audience of all ages with their madcap pirate comedy and tricks.

At the end of the show Captain Jack joined them to judge the best dressed young pirates in Bury.

Marie Gribben, manager at The Mall shopping centre, said: "There were hundreds of young pirates ashore at Mill Gate today to see Captain Jack Sparrow. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the shows from Pirates of Menspants.

"It was lovely to see all the youngsters wearing the pirate hats and parrots they decorated at our craft workshop."

There was also a free craft workshop where children were able to make captain hats, parrots, pirate masks and flags.

Children also enjoyed finding the clues hidden around Mill Gate to complete a treasure trail to win a treat.
