AN award-winning dance company have done their country proud once more after sweeping the field on the international stage.

Freak Dance, who are based in Radcliffe, sent 15 of their dancers to Hungary to compete at the International Dance Federation World Championships in Modern Dance Sport.

The five-day event, which pitted 18 countries against each other, covered numerous styles with a host of medals on offer.

In the end, the company won a total of 58 medals and placed in the top six in every single category.

Freak Dance owner Aeron Lloyd-Booth, aged 30, from Radcliffe, said: “This is still only the seventh year since we formed so it’s just amazing how far we have come in that time.

“From competing all over the UK, we are now doing the same in places like Italy, Hungary and the USA.

“Our dance school is going from strength to strength and I could not be prouder of our dedicated dancers.”

Freak Dance represented England against countries such as Spain, Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, Poland, France, Gibraltar and Italy in a variety of style categories including jazz, hip-hop and funk.

After winning the overall stage, the company must now wait to hear for the results of two other competitions to see if they will be placed as the overall winner on July 1.

Jack Wren, a dance captain at Freak Dance, said: “I still cannot believe how we travel across Europe and our dancers from tiny old Radcliffe make such long lasting impressions on people.”

Dancer at the company, 21-year-old Amy Thompson, who made the trip to Hungary, said: “It has been such hard work training for this event but I have loved every minute of it.

“To be able to stand on the podium with a first place trophy in your hand and hearing your own national anthem playing is a memory that I will always have and makes it all worthwhile.”

Since the company’s formation in 2010, students have gone on to perform in numerous high-end music videos and have been accepted into some of the UK’s best dance colleges.

Freak Dance have recently announced that they will embark on another trip to Los Angeles with auditions currently being held for anyone who will be over the age of nine at the start of 2019.

A previous trip to to the city proved to be a success with two students being offered scholarships to go and train in America.
