THE streets of Prestwich will be flooded with colour as the town’s carnival returns for the 93rd time on Sunday.

Where does the carnival parade start?

The parade will begin outside Pados House, in Rectory Lane at 1pm as the processions weaves its way through Prestwich returning to St Mary’s Park at 2.30pm.

How many floats will there be?

There will be around 30 floats from local businesses and charities and various bands marching in the parade.

Where’s the best place to watch the parade from?

The most popular points to watch the carnival at are in Bury New Road and Fairfax Road.

Rectory Lane, Whittaker Lane, Bury Old Road, Nursery Road and Poppythorn Lane are expected to be lined with families also.

Where to park?

Visitors can park in the Longfield Suite Car Park or at St Mary’s Park.

Carnival organisers have set up a temporary car park in the park for the day and are asking motorists using the site for a £2 donation towards the annual event.

What if I'm travelling by tram?

If you are travelling to Prestwich Carnival by tram, Metrolink is advising commuters plan the journey in advance due to improvement works affecting the Bury line.

A replacement bus services will run for most of the day from Bury to Piccadilly.

Bus services will follow road diversions for the carnival parade between 12pm and 3pm, meaning that there will be no bus service at Besses o’th Barn, Prestwich and Heaton Park stops during this time.

What entertainment will there be?

There will be fairground rides, various stalls, a real ale tent, eco village and a music and arts stage at St Mary’s Park.

Local good causes and charities benefit each year from cash raised at the event.

Frank Shatliff, carnival committee chairman, said: “Each year we aim to raise enough money to be able to put on the carnival the following year.

“Once those costs are covered we look at how much we have left to donate to local good causes, which would benefit from our support.”
