A GROUP of schoolboys felt the need for speed last week.

 

As part of Bury Grammar School Boys' Game On Sports Campaign, 45 pupils have been putting the pedal to the metal during the last few weeks.

 

In total £1,000 was raised for the school's new pavilion at Buckley Wells playing fields.

 

Suzanne Gauge, a parent who helped organise the event, said: "Well done to all who took part and thank you once again to all parents who supported the tournament and to TeamKarting Rochdale whose fantastic team made the whole thing possible."

 

The 18 wannabe Formula 1 qualifiers competed in a two heat semi-final on Friday at the with the fastest four from each race going straight through to the karting final with the chance to secure a place on the winning podium.

 

The three winners were Jake Goldstone, Sam Gauge and Ben Darlington, first, second and third respectively.

 

For every boy who took part in the race - the track owners donated the profit from the sale of the ticket.

 

TeamKarting Rochdale is the largest indoor go karting track in Greater Manchester and manager Matty Street, aged 20, said: "All the kids enjoyed it and it was a new experience for a lot of them."
