PUPILS at a school in Radcliffe were treated to a visit from a cricket legend.
Millwood Primary Special School welcomed Chris Edwards, England Learning Disability team captain to give them a masterclass in the art of batting and bowling.
Representatives from Lancashire Cricket Club, who provide sports training at schools, and Chance to Shine, a cricket charity, also came to help out.
During the visit, children tried out all sorts of ball skills before having a short cricket match in the rain while others played table cricket indoors.
Head at Millwood School, Helen Chadwick, said: “The children had a wonderful day playing all sorts of cricket games.
“Chris is a fantastic role model. He has real star attraction and all the qualities you would expect in a captain - passion for the sport, great communicator, total respect for the children’s abilities and interests, and he’s modest with it!!”
Christian Walker, aged 11, who took part, said: “I really liked the playing with a bat like real cricket players do.”
Jack Hinze, aged 10, said: “I really enjoyed the match where I did some bowling and batting.”
Mrs Chadwick added that the school values sports very highly and that they provide a range of fully accessible sports and physical activities for all of the children to take part in.
She said: “These activities help children to make accelerated progress not only in physical development and understanding of individual and team skills but also helping their self-confidence.
The plan is next to take a group of children to cheer on Chris and his team in their upcoming One Day International match at Bramhall Cricket Club on July 13.
