MEET Jemma Hardy – Bury’s adult learner of the year.

The student was given the award by Bury Adult Learning Service at an annual ceremony in the Elizabethan Suite at the Town Hall in Bury.

Mum Jemma, from Bury, was selected for the accolade by her tutor Jackie Simpson.

She said: “Jemma completed her level one employability qualification with enthusiasm and always putting a lot of thought into each task.

“She helped within the class supporting those less capable, typing up CVs for anyone with poor IT skills and always willing to help with written work, joining in all tasks and activities enthusiastically.

“Jemma’s confidence grew in a way that she has now gone on to two voluntary jobs and has since completed a college course with a view to becoming a teaching assistant once her young children are all in school.”

Julie Kenrick, Head of Bury Adult Learning Service, said “This type of event is such a special occasion and a great opportunity to meet and thank the

learners.

"Presenting them with their certificates gives recognition for all their hard work and commitment to their studies and coursework.”

Also recognised during the evening were the volunteers who give up their time freely to help other learners and the invaluable

contribution they make to Bury Adult Learning Service.

The new autumn course guide will be available from Friday 4 August from Bury Adult Learning Centre and via www.bury.gov.uk/adultlearning.
