SUPERJOSH founder Dawn Fidler brings you her latest blog

AS August is Josh’s Birthday month, we’ve been feeling quite nostalgic recently.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the Pride of Bury Awards, which are a huge part of my boy’s legacy.

Back in 2014, Josh and I were sitting in Costa at The Village Hotel, talking to the then sales manager, Samantha Gibbs.

We were talking about how Josh had been nicknamed SuperJosh, and had become a local hero to many people; however, there were plenty of other amazing people living in our wonderful borough, and they all deserved to be recognised, too.

From that single conversation, an idea was born, and the Pride of Bury Awards were launched in 2015.

Sadly, Josh never got to see them, but he’s a huge part of it and I know he would have been so proud of the positivity and joy that surrounds the whole event.

There are just over two weeks to go before nominations for the Pride of Bury Awards close on August 31, and I urge you to get in touch with us now to tell us about the special people you know.

This year we’ve introduced three new categories to include volunteers, little fundraisers and professional carers — so there really is an award for everyone.

All we ask is that the person you’re nominating either lives, works or volunteers in the borough of Bury.

To nominate, all you have to do is go to prideofbury.co.uk and complete the easy to use nomination form.

Alternatively, you can email hello@prideofbury.co.uk or even message us via our Facebook page: The Pride of Bury Awards.

It is so humbling to read people’s stories about those who have saved lives, raised money, given up their time or possessions to help others, or who have gone the extra mile at work.

No act is too small, so please get nominating the people you think have made a genuine difference to our amazing town.

Nominations close on August 31 and the judges will announce their finalists on September 7 for the public vote.
