WORK is under way to demolish a former landmark pub which has stood empty for the last year four years.
The demolition of the former site of the Jolly Carters, in Bolton Road, Bury, started two weeks ago.
The pub closed its doors in 2005, but reopened the following year as an Indian restaurant, Dil Se, before later becoming the Mumbai Lounge.
Plans for a housing estate were approved for the site in 2010, despite opposition from local residents.
The plan involved building one four-bedroom detached house and 14 three-bedroom semi-detached houses.
A spokesperson for the site’s current owners CW Construction say there are no plans for the site following its demolition.
However, the company submitted an application for prior notification of proposed demolition in May, citing the reason for the work as ‘to redevelop the site’.
