WALSHAW Sports Club has opened its new £40,000 facilities.

The Sycamore Road club’s original all-weather pitch was opened by former Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce in 2003.

However, as the facilities are regularly used by the club’s 14 junior football teams their condition had deteriorated in recent years.

After successfully applying for a £40,000 grant from waste management company Viridor, the club has now been able to replace the pitch’s surface and floodlights, as well as replacing the drainage on the football fields.

Salford City manager Anthony Johnson, who used to play for the club, opened the facilities.

Club Chairman Steve Hunt said: “The old one badly needed replacing and this new surface should last for another 20 years.” The club is hoping to start running walking football sessions. Please contact Steve Hunt on 07870274897.
