A MAN was rescued from a window ledge after a flat fire.

The fire service was called to Rydal Close, Bury, at around 8.20pm last night.

It had been reported that people were inside the property but when at the scene it was not immediately obvious there was a fire.

Crews could hear shouting and when they went around the back of a property they found smoke coming from a window and a man perched on a window ledge ready to fall.

A ladder was put up and the man was brought down from the ledge.

There were fears that there was more people inside the flat so a search was carried out but no-one else was found.

Steve Wilcock, watch manager at Bury fire station, said it was a relatively small fire and was easily put out.

The man was taken to Fairfield Hospital by paramedics to be treated for minor injuries.

As well as a crew from Bury, crews from Whitefield and Broughton also attended.

They were on the scene for around an hour.
