Court orders unpaid work

MAGISTRATES have ordered a man to do 100 hours unpaid work after he admitted assaulting a woman and damaging her clothing and make-up.

At Manchester Magistrates' Court Waqar Chowdry, aged 23, of Louis Avenue, Bury, also admitted driving a Vauxhall Corsa between Horwich Street and Park Road without care and attention on August 26.

In addition to the unpaid work Chowdry was ordered to participate in a better relationships programme for 27 days and a restraining order was made banning him from contacting his victim.

Magistrates’ fine over lorry

MANCHESTER magistrates have fined a man £660 after he failed to give police information about the identity of a Volvo lorry driver.

The case against David Stimpson, aged 42, of Lever Street, Radcliffe, was proved in his absence.

In addition to the fine, six points were added to his driving licence and he was ordered to pay £151 in costs.

Mattress thief sentenced

A SHOPLIFTER who stole a mattress worth £60 from B&M Bargains, Bury, on August 31 has been sentenced at Manchester Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty.

Robert Steele, aged 41, of Ormrod Street, Bury, was ordered to participate in 10 days of rehabilitation activities and must pay £85 towards prosecution costs plus an £85 victim surcharge.

Unpaid work for drink driver

A DRIVER who drank more than double the legal alcohol limit has been sentenced to do 100 hours unpaid work and has been banned from holding a licence for three years.

At Manchester Magistrates’ Court Umar Ashraf, aged 32, of Horsham Close, Bury, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on Bury New Road, Whitefield, on September 22. He must also pay £170 in costs and charges.

Trainers thief jailed by court

A TRESPASSER who burgled a garage on Turks Road, Radcliffe, and stole 35 pairs of Converse trainers has been jailed by magistrates in Manchester.

Michael Godwin, aged 48, of Gingham Park, Radcliffe, pleaded guilty to taking the footwear and an iPad, together worth £1,000, on July 23.

The court was told that Godwin has an ‘appalling’ criminal record.

He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation and a restraining order was made banning him from going to Turks Road or contacting the victim.

TV licence fine

MAGISTRATES have fined Taylor Kane, aged 20, of Alma Street, Radcliffe, £220, plus £150 in costs and charges, for using a colour television without a licence between April 17 and May 18.

Ban driver faces court

MAGISTRATESS have sentenced a man to do 160 hours unpaid work after he admitted driving while banned from holding a licence and having no insurance.

Manchester Magistrates’ Court heard how Fawad Ahmed, aged 36, of Bury Old Road, Prestwich, was caught driving a Kia Carens on Bury Old Road on September 15.

In addition to the unpaid work Ahmed was banned from applying for a licence for 12 months and must pay £170 in costs and charges.
