BURY celebrities Jennie McAlpine and Jamie Lomas were paired together and made to walk a plank in a terrifying start to the new series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine and Hollyoaks’ Jamie Lomas were forced to walk the plank, 334-foot up in the air on the roof of a Gold Coast hotel before even entering the jungle.

The much-anticipated new series of the show started last night at 9pm on ITV.

The soap stars are among 10 celebrities who have swapped a life of luxury to face their fears in the Australian jungle over the next three weeks.

They are joined by Stanley Johnson, Rebekah Vardy, Dennis Wise, Jack Maynard, Georgia Toffolo, Shappi Khorsandi, Vanessa White and Amir Khan.

Prior to the show, the public had been asked to vote to pair up the celebrities, and chose Jennie to team up with Jamie.

Jamie said: “I’m made up me and Jennie are buddies, I know Jennie from back home, we’ll have a good laugh together.

“This is definitely one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever done in my life, it’s a once in a lifetime experience.”

Jennie said: “I’ve asked myself can I do it, absolutely no idea is the answer – this is it now, no going back.”

The celebrities were split into two teams to take part in different challenges.

Six of the celebrities, including Jennie and Jamie, were flown to the hotel rooftop where they were greeted by Ant and Dec.

There, each pair had to walk across two planks at the same time to win a meal ticket.

First up to walk the plank together were Jennie and Jamie.

The pair managed to get to the end and press a light at the right time, despite some hair-raising moments when the planks shook.

In total, the celebrities won four meal tickets for camp.

I’m a Celebrity returns to ITV at 9pm this evening.
