THE number of students achieving the top A-level grades in Bury this year was significantly lower than the national average, it has been revealed.
A report shown to members of Bury Council’s cabinet at a meeting tonight showed that just 5.9% of male students in the borough achieved 3A*-A grades, compared to a national average of 14.5%.
The figures were also low for female students, of whom only 6.5% managed to attain the highest grades, compared to a national average of 11.8%.
Provisional information released by the Department for Education in October also shows that of 1,114 students who received results for one or more A-level in Bury in August, just 11.7% achieved grades AAB or better. The national average was 21.8%.
