AN unconventional gym could be coming to Whitefield.

Salma Mirza from Liverpool is looking to turn an office space in Radcliffe New Road into a Gymophobics — a gym group with a holistic approach to weight loss.

In a document submitted with the application Mrs Mirza said: "The noise that our centres make is very

different to that of a conventional Gym."

She says: "There are no clanking weights or weight machines at Gymophobics. Instead each Centre

has six air operated machines that are whisper quiet.

"Air is generated via a small generator, which is too quiet to hear and has a noise output of some 48db. "We even surround the generator with a soundproofed box."

Mrs Mirza said: "Gymophobics is a holistic concept offering personalised dietary and exercise prescriptions to ladies with weight problems.

"Most are in the older age category and loud background music of the kind that a conventional Gym would play is therefore non existent."

She also added that classes are usually sedate in nature and would not cause a lot of noise.

The first-floor office space sits near the Forts of India and Mrs Mirza says the gym will have use of the restaurant's car parking spaces when it is shut as well as six of its own.

The application for change of use was submitted to the council at the beginning of the month and has not yet been decided by Bury planners.
