A BURY pub is set to reopen following a major refurbishment.

The Victoria in Hall Street, Walshaw, will throw open its doors to the public next month following a joint investment of £115,000 from Ei Publican Partnerships and publicans, Richard Moore and Lisa Wrigley.

Work began on the refurbishment, which aims to give the venue a new, modern look, earlier this month.

Changes have been made to the bar and restaurant areas with old fireplaces being brought back into use, and a window being put in place to bring more light into the building.

Four en-suite guest rooms have also been redecorated allowing its owners to further expand their independent business.

Mr Moore and Ms Wrigley took over the pub last March and since then have hired head chef Lee Fielding, formerly of the Bolholt and Old Mill in Ramsbottom.

They hope to transform the venue, making it a community hub for Walshaw.

The pair already support community events and initiatives including hosting monthly craft and book clubs and holding weekly live entertainment nights.

The reopening will take place on Friday, February 9, from 7:30pm and will be attended by the Mayor of Bury, Cllr Dorothy Gunther, and former Coronation Street star Nikki Sanderson. Guests will also be able to enjoy live music.

Sally Wilson, regional manager for Ei Publican Partnerships, said: “Richard and Lisa have established an excellent reputation for themselves and their pub and do some fantastic work for the local community."
