PLANS for a new terraced house were given the go ahead by Bury's planning committee.

Applicant Eagle Estate Ltd distributed 21 letters notifying residents of plans to build the house at the end of a row of terraces.

The plot in Pine Street South was previously occupied by a terraced home which is understood to have been demolished in the 1980s.

The applicant said at the meeting: "There was previously a house there. We are hoping to improve the existing drainage."

There were five letters of objection submitted to the committee, as well as a petition with 21 signatures

A further two objections were received following amendments to the plans.

One objecting next-door neighbour, who spoke at tonight's planning committee meeting, said: "The proposed site would devalue my property.

"Having this house at the side of my property would reduce the value by approximately £5,000."

Other objectors cited loss of light, loss of privacy, loss of natural wildlife habitat and additional noise as concerns.

The committee voted nine in favour of plans while chair, Councillor Trevor Holt, abstained.

Councillor Jane Black said: "I would hope there would be ways for the neighbours to work together on this."

Councillor Tony Cummings said: "There was a terraced house there previously. The proposals are for a terraced house. There should be no reason why this is not allowed."
