A BUILDER and a Bury homeowner have received thousands of pounds after winning a top tradesman competition.

Tim Taylor, aged 43, of T.I.M Building and Maintenance Ltd, was nominated for a MyBuilder award by Bury father Ben Ryan, after Mr Taylor converted his garage into an accessible bedroom and bathroom for Layla, his 10-year-old wheelchair-using daughter.

The victorious pair beat off strong competition to scoop the MyBuilder Job of the Year award, and will now split a £5,000 prize.

Mr Taylor said: "Myself and my team are absolutely made up we have won this national competition as its our first year on MyBuilder.

"We work extremely hard to go the extra mile for new and old customers. We believe that customers deserve a great service and finished job.

"Building projects are expensive and when a customer invests they deserve a top job not just on the surface but all the fundamentals correctly done.

"The competition gives us recognition that doing everything correctly pays off in the long run.

"Thankyou to all the readers, customers, family and friends that support us, and lastly thanks to my Team for putting up with my endless attention to detail. Its been a top year on MyBuilder."

The Job of the Year Award was launched in January by MyBuilder.com, an online marketplace enabling homeowners to find quality tradespeople in their area.

The competition aims to recognise tradespeople and teams from across the UK who have gone the extra mile — something Mr Ryan believes Mr Taylor went above and beyond.

As My Taylor and his team carried out work on Layla's bedroom, Mr Ryan was blown away by their tidiness and consideration — even cleaning his driveway for him, which was not part of the job.

Mr Ryan said: “The nomination for Tim was a no brainer."

"Tim and the guys turned up on time everyday, always really well mannered, and they took time to get to know me and the children.

"When Layla was there, they showed her around and told her where everything was going to be and how the work was progressing.

“They asked lots of questions and also made sure that they were doing exactly what I wanted for the rooms.

“Everyday, they tidied and cleaned up - they even cleaned stuff that they never made dirty. They did more than I would have ever imagined they would do.

“The icing on the cake for me was that the week after the guys had finished, a parcel came in the post and it was a personalised pillow for Layla in the same colour scheme from the room.”

Mr Ryan was so impressed by Mr Taylor's work that he has already asked for quotes for three more jobs in his house.

Mr Ryan said: "We are over the moon for Tim and his team for winning the award, we feel it’s thoroughly well deserved.

"The job of the year award is a great way to recognise them for their efforts because I’m sure they probably feel they just did their job, but to us they did that and so much more. "The end result is beyond anything we could have imagined ourselves, so in that respect the nomination was a no brainier for us.

"Our share of the award will help to complete Layla’s new room by allowing us to buy some additional equipment to support Layla’s needs."

Layla added: “I like the builder and my room looks really good.”
