A FATHER and son from Ramsbottom are releasing their second poetry book.

Paul Jenkins and his son Thomas have produced their second book of poems, Wibbly Wobbly Words, pairing Mr Jenkins’ verse with his son's illustrations.

The pair published their first book, My Bottom Did a Burp in Class, last year and are publishing their second book at the end of the month.

Mr Jenkins, who lives in Ramsbottom, said: “I’ve always enjoyed nonsense poetry.

“I grew up on a literary diet of Roald Dahl and Spike Milligan so it's no wonder that the more I write, the more it begins to sound like befuddled nonsense. Luckily that’s exactly what the children I work with enjoy so we appear to be on to a winner.”

The book features a whole host of new poems, from verses about Bratty Brothers and Mummified Mummies to stories of children who have a penchant for eating glue sticks in class and brave knights in sparkly armour riding rainbow unicorns

Thomas, aged 10, is in his final year at Holcombe Brook Primary School. He has again illustrated all twenty poems in the book and a cover portrait of his dad.

He said; “I’ve always really enjoyed drawing pictures and even though this is work, it doesn’t really feel like it. It’s been lots of fun.

“I like drawing pictures of the characters — they always seem to be doing strange and funny things.”

As well as collaborating with his son, Paul has also been working with pupils from Old Hall Primary School on the production of the new collection.

Over the last four months Mr Jenkins has made regular visits to the school to work with year 5 pupils on the process of creating a new book.

The poem The Knack Knack Car, was written with their help.

Mr Jenkins said: “Not only are the pupils at the school my target audience — they’ve also been a very handy editing team for helping sort out the content.”

The book will be launched at Old Hall Primary School in Springside View on February 26.
