RADCLIFFE’S new ‘super Lidl’ opened its doors this morning as an expectant crowd gathered to be the first to get a chance to grab a bargain.

The store, in Dale Street, Radcliffe, is providing 40 jobs to local people and is believed to be the biggest Lidl in Greater Manchester.

More than 50 people were waiting outside at 8am for the grand opening.

The ribbon was cut by Bury Council leader Rishi Shori, who was joined by other dignitaries for the occasion.

Cllr Shori said: “Attracting a retailer of Lidl’s quality is a direct result of our commitment to and investment in Radcliffe town centre.

“This will bring new and a much needed retail offer and help to ‘knit together’ the town centre with a high quality design, not forgetting the employment opportunities that such a major development brings.

“We promised the people of Radcliffe that they would see real improvements to the town centre and this, combined with all of our other recent investments, is proof that we’ve kept our promises.

“What’s more, next month I’ll be launching the Radcliffe Regeneration Task Force, which will bring together businesses, the local community and the council. Mayor Andy Burnham has already promised his support for this task force, and by all working together we can continue the transformation of Radcliffe.”
