PEEL Tower has announced a number of open days for this year.

The monument was erected in memory of former British Prime Minister and founder of the modern police force, Sir Robert Peel, and takes pride of place on top of Holcombe Hill.

The tower, which cost £1,000 to build, offers stunning views across the North West.

And after climbing the 148-step staircase, visitors sometimes report being able to see as far as Blackpool and Wales.

Volunteers open the tower at least once a month and charge a small fee for entry. A white flag is flown from the top of the tower when it is open.

It will open to the public on March 30, April 15, May 7, and June 17.
