A GROUP dedicated to keeping Hollins tidy has been out in action.

Hollins Conservation Group's Green Gym Hit Squad meets every Thursday morning for a couple of hours to tidy the village.

The work varies from litter-picking and hedge trimming to flower and bulb planting depending on the time of year and the weather.

Recently some members collected litter from beneath the hedgerows alongside Hollins Lane, collecting several bags of litter in just a couple of hours.

Paul Snelson, one of the members of the hit squad said: "We don't mind collecting the litter as it is good exercise for mind and soul.

"However, it would be better if people put their litter in the many green bins which we have provided."

The Green Gym Hit Squad meets every Thursday morning at Hollins Bowling Green car park at 10am and works until 12 noon. The group then heads off to the Hollins Bush pub where landlady Judith makes pots of tea and coffee.
