BURY North MP James Frith has added his name to a parliamentary motion calling on the government to introduce legislation to tackle fly-tipping.

The motion, which currently has cross-party support from 40 MPs, calls on the secretary of state for justice to simplify the court process for prosecuting fly-tippers and to introduce community payback sentencing for fly-tipping.

MPs believe these measures would help to address the increase in illegal fly-tipping.

Mr Frith said: “My office receives regular complaints from residents about fly-tipping across Bury and although we work closely with Bury Council to tackle the issues as they arise, more should be done to find and bring to justice those who are causing this blight on our communities.

"My hope is that the Government will support these simple measures and that the threat of swift prosecution will deter fly-tipping in future.”
