APRIL may be just around the corner but Bury has been gripped by another cold spell.

A white blanket has covered the town overnight and the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice lasting for most of the morning across the UK.

A yellow warning is in place throughout the day for Bury as snow showers are likely to continue throughout today.

The Met Office has warned that there is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles, along with delayed or cancelled rail travel.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders, said: “The heaviest snow is expected overnight Saturday into Sunday with around 5 – 10cms of snow within the warning areas, possibly more over high ground.

"It will stay bitterly cold and windy throughout Sunday with more sunshine and snow showers."

Forecasts predict that the snow and winds will have eased by Monday, though overnight frost and some ice will occur and have warned this could increase the risk of accidents as well as injuries due to falls.

This is predicted to last until 10am on Monday morning.
