FIREFIGHTERS were called out after youths started a fire in a derelict school.

Three fire engines attended the former site of Millwood School, in Fletcher Fold Road, Bury, shortly after 7pm, following reports that youths had started a fire.

It is believed that they broke in to the rear of the building before setting fire to rubbish and old furniture.

Steve Urmston, watch manager at Bury Fire Station, said: "The building has been boarded up for some time but the kids decided to go back in again.

"There was still some rubbish and old furniture which I think they have set fire to. There was a bit of damage to the room it was in but nothing too major."

"The local authority attended while we were there and they are looking at getting it boarded up again."
