A COMMUNITY youth choir has been selected to sing at a commemorative event to mark the first anniversary of the Manchester Arena attack.
Twenty-two people were killed and hundreds injured when Salman Abedi detonated a bomb at an Ariana Grande concert on May 22, 2017.
People will gather in their memory for the Manchester Together - With One Voice event on Tuesday, May 22, which brings together choirs from across Manchester and beyond.
Encore, formerly Bury Young Voices, will perform 'Manchester Mash Up' and 'Why We Sing' in St Anne’s Square.
Choir conductor Katie Geelan said: "We are honoured that our choir has been asked to perform. It is a privilege that these youngsters have been chosen."
Sam Heath, a choir member, said: “It is a good chance to commemorate those who lost their lives”
Encore were performing 'Manchester Mash Up' — a musical medley of classic tunes by Manchester bands — on May 21, the night before the bomb blast.
The 42-strong choir, who rehearse at The Derby High School, were approached by BBC Radio Manchester and asked to perform at the commemorative event.
President Janet Adams said: "It is a marvellous opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our town through music and creativity."
For the final 30 minutes at Manchester Together, the gathering will sing a range of songs in unison, to be broadcast live on BBC Radio Manchester.
