A SUMMER picnic in the park will celebrate community unity next month.

The second Great Get Together will be held at Nuttall Park, in Ramsbottom, on June 23 following on from the success of last year’s event.

The event has been organised by Ramsbottom Together to mark the 44th birthday of Jo Cox, the Yorkshire MP murdered in her constituency in June 2016.

Organisers say the success of last year’s event, based on “Jo’s belief that there is more that unites us than divides us”, led to the formation of the Ramsbottom group.

The event will take on a party theme and the local community are invited to join in.

A ‘bake off’ competition will again be open to bakers of all ages.

There will also be contributions to the party fun from Rammy Rocks, Incredible Edibles and Creative Station, with entertainment from Ramsbottom poet Paul Jenkins and singer Matt Ryan.

Event organiser, and founder of Ramsbottom Together, Clare Cummins, said: “We want everybody to come along and enjoy themselves.

“Bring a picnic and your own talents to help make the day a success.

“As last year, it’s planned to have a variety of stalls and activities.

“So if there’s some way you can help, either by offering a skill, a service, a bit of entertainment, or by volunteering to help on the day and in the run-up, then we’d love to hear from you.”
