BURY'S Simon Yates goes into tomorrow’s fifth race from the finish of the Giro d'Italia as the likely winner by weekend after coming through Tuesday's time trial with his lead slashed but with 56 seconds still in hand.

In this afternoon’s time trial Australia's Rohan Dennis took the win with Yates finishing in 22nd place on the 34.2km course.

Yates began the trial 2mins 11secs ahead of Dumoulin and will be delighted to have held on to so much time.
