BURY caught an extra bit of royal fever last week as replicas of the Crown Jewels came to the borough ahead of the royal wedding.

The jewels came to Peter Jackson The Jeweller in St John’s Gardens on May 17 and could be seen by the public who were able to hold the replicas and have their photo taken with them.

Several schools also visited the store and an evening VIP party was held to fundraise for Bury Hospice.

On show were replicas of St Edward’s Crown, the Imperial State Crown, Queen Mary’s Crown, the Lover’s Knot Tiara, King George IV’s Diadem and Princess Diana’s Tiara — the most popular item for photos.

The valuable replicas, used as TV and film props, including for Netflix Series The Crown, are one of only two facsimile sets permitted in the world — the other is in Sydney, Australia.

Laura Humphreys, manager of the jewellers said: “Everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s not everyday you can see and wear them.”
