FOUR runners from Bury Athletic Club are attempting to prove that age is just a number by appearing in a promotional film to tackle preconceptions.

Roger Morley, aged 63, who runs at the club, based at the running track in Market Street, was approached to appear in the campaign for global hearing aid specialists Amplifon, which has a branch at Bury Masonic Hall, in Parson’s Lane.

Mr Morley then persuaded his running buddies, Harvey Wiseglass, aged 69, Eddie Hitchen, aged 75, and Peter Henderson, aged 66, to join him and 17 others – all aged between 50 and 76,

The campaign, which is called Old or Not Old? showcases how older people play an active role in society.

The four men spent the day jogging alongside other runners — wearing t-shirts emblazoned with the Old or Not Old? slogan — at some of Manchester’s best-known landmarks, including St Ann’s Square, the National Football Museum and the Bridgewater Hall.

The video is a warm up for the Old or Not Old? Games in Manchester’s Albert Square on June 6 when older runners will be pitted against younger athletes on a 60 metre track in an attempt to prove age is just a number.

Mr Morley said: “Old or Not Old? definitely resonated with us – a number of runners at Bury Athletic Club are aged over 55 and they often come first in their age category in races, proving that age really isn’t a barrier to fitness.

“If you look after yourself and put the miles in, your body soon gets used to it.We had a brilliant time filming."
