MAKE-UP and hairdressing students teamed up for an on-stage showcase event to impress their families.

In an inspiring performance, young people from Bury College University Centre displayed the skills they have been developing in the classroom in front of a live audience.

Students on the Hairdressing Management Foundation Degree course produced showstopping hair creations on fellow Bury College performing arts students.

Ruth Gavaghan from Bury, who is studying hairdressing, said: "Tonight was really good, I was nervous but enjoyed it. I chose the theme of elegance and sophistication and loved creating the look."

The range of designs were suited for use within the hair industry, including in salons, magazines and on the catwalk.

Meanwhile, those studying the Design in Media Make-up Foundation Degree impressed their friends, tutors and peers with glamour and festival looks.

The entire event was planned, managed and hosted by the young people.

Lauren McIlvenny, aged 20, who is studying Design in Media Make-up, created a gold-leaf inspired look.

She said: "It was a great opportunity to put on an actual show. We were all looking forward to it and our confidence has definitely improved.”

Lauren's mum Claire McIlvenny said: "I am extremely proud to see the work that my daughter has created, I couldn’t stop smiling."
