A YOUTH club that reopened this year after being forced to close due to a lack of volunteers has re-appealed for support from the community.

A new committee has been formed since the reopening of Outwood Bound Youth Club, in Radcliffe, in February.

But the club, which attracts some 30 young people every week, is in need of additional funding to cover its costs and provide activities.

Fundraising officer Tim Murphy said: “The future of the club is bright.

“But we could really do with more manpower and we are very low on funding and equipment."

The youth club, base at King George V Community Centre, in Outwood Road, launched in August 2013 and is run by Six Town Housing.

It closed its doors in November last year because of a lack of volunteers but an appeal was launched and covered by the Radcliffe Times and on local radio.

Each week, the youngsters enjoy activities such as football, rounders, cooking and archery during the two-hour sessions.

But the club has asked for donations of new materials, such as arts and crafts, sports gear, table tennis equipment, and financial support to cover the cost of t-shirts for the attendees.

The club has also asked for donations for its two stalls at the Radcliffe Carnival car boot sale, which will be held on Sunday, June 3 at Red Bank Field.

Items such as bric-a-brac, clothes, toys and books can be dropped off at Number 18, Spring Lane, Radcliffe.

The club is still looking for more volunteers and anyone wishing to volunteer should contact Steph Brimelow, community development worker at Six Town Housing, on 0161 686 8000.

Outwood Bound is open every Thursday for two hour sessions between 6pm and 8pm for children aged six to 16.
