A LARGE-SCALE celebration took hold in a community garden to mark a tenants’ and residents’ association’s milestone anniversary.

A family fun day was held in the community garden at Melrose Gardens on Sunday afternoon to mark Abbey Close TRA’s 15th anniversary.

The crowds flocked to the site to enjoy food, entertainment, and music performed by Besses Boys Band.

Chairman Dot Wood said: "The whole event went really well. It was a lovely day for it.

"I was a bit overwhelmed at the amount of people who were there — we had around 150."

Abbey Close TRA is made up of 45 members who work alongside Six Town Housing, Bury Council and other bodies to improve an area to the north west of Radcliffe, covering 450 properties.

The celebration event was funded by Six Town Housing.

John Merrick, director of neighbourhoods at Six Town Housing, previously said: “On this milestone anniversary, Abbey Close TRA are celebrating the many positive changes their volunteers have made in the area.

"TRAs like Abbey Close deserve to be celebrated for all the work they do; they help bring communities together, provide services tailored to the needs of local people and help inform us of any potential issues in their local area so we can tackle them."

Mrs Wood thanked her committee, Rod Wood, Bev Khan, Carole, Andy, Simon and Jaden Beswick, Elaine and Thomas Waters who helped make the family fun day a success.

She said: "The celebration has been six months in the making.

"I could never had done it without my committee.

"People were surprised they didn't have to pay.

"It was nice to give something back to the people who have helped us."
