ANIMALS large and small were the stars at the Bury Agricultural Show today.

This year celebrating it's 75th year the show saw hundreds of families and animal lovers enjoying the big attractions on offer at Burrs Country Park.

Keeping the traditions of the countryside and farming alive, the show boasted plenty of animal show sections including cattle, dogs, light and heavy horses and sheep, as well as numerous other categories from arts and crafts to eggs and farriery.

Beyond the show tent some of the highlights included a dazzling interactive bird of prey show featuring Harris' Hawk Gripper and others from Long Ben Falconry, who had set off at 4am just to get to Bury.

There were also lively wildlife displays from Bryan Paterson who brought along his collection of exotic creatures, including meerkats, emperor scorpions, a boa constrictor, a tarantula and cockroaches and millipedes.

Dozens of tents and attractions filled the park from businesses, charities and community groups alongside a family funfair, military vehicles and vintage tractors. Among those enjoying the sunshine and fun at the show was were Jean and Keith Smith, with their daughter Adele Chilton and grandchildren Charlotte, aged 5, and Poppy, aged 21 months.

They said: "We have come here every year for about 30 years, and this year they had a lot more attractions and the weather has made it.

"We have had a brilliant day and it's ideal to bring the grandkids."
