TOTTINGTON Village Fete proved a hit with more than £2,000 raised towards the new Tottington Centre.

Hundreds of people turned out to the event, which was organised by The Friends of Tottington Library, at the Tottington Centre on Sunday.

Among the festivities to keep people entertained were a 'bonnie babies' competition, as well as bake off and 'who's got the biggest vegetable' competitions.

The winner of the bake off competition was Tottington mum Monica Webber, however, village baker Chris Hudson judged the competition and said it had been 'a difficult task' to separate the competitiors.

The 'bonnie babies' contest also proved to be a success, with all babies receiving a rosette.

There were also a number of stalls, including crafts, plants, clothes and jewellery, games for children, and a perform from Tottington Public Brass Band.

People were also able a spot of lunch in a designated picnic area, while there was also a barbecue and a selection of snacks available.

Tottington councillor Yvonne Wright said: “A great day was had by all. The weather was perfect and we had great support from local residents.

"A year ago we were campaigning to save the library, and now, with a dedicated committee and the great support of local people we have a thriving community facility."

Committee member Janis Barber added: "It was our first fete and we were overwhelmed by the support.

"We are now planning many children’s activities for the summer holidays and would encourage parents to bring their children into the centre."

The event was such a success that organisers are already making plans for another next year.

The next event being held by The Tottington Centre will be a book sale on Sunday, August 5.
