AN employee had to have his finger sewn back on after it was severed in a workplace incident.

The man, believed to be a sales director in his 60s, was working at Oliver Ashworth, based in Higher Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe, when the incident happened last week.

He is believed to have lost one finger and damaged another in the incident, which reportedly happened during a stock take, and involved a steel pipe.

A spokesperson for Bury Council confirmed that an incident had taken place at the firm, and that its health and safety department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding it.

They said: “We can confirm that there has been an incident there, and we will now be conducting an investigation into it.”

Oliver Ashworth were approached for comment, but declined to do so.

The steel stockholder describes itself on its website as being ‘one of the UK’s leading distributors to the building services’.
