FORGET the glory of scoring in a World Cup semi-final, or receiving the freedom of your hometown, an even bigger honour awaits Kieran Trippier upon his return to Bury.

For the England ace's sensational performances in Russia this summer have secured himself a special reserved car parking space outside Lidl.

The space, which has been installed outside the store in Victoria Street, Bury, features the former Woodhey High School pupil's face, along with a message that reads 'Well done Trippier, whose dreams began in Bury'.

Lidl, the official supermarket of the England Football Team, announced the space today alongside similar ones at a number of other stores up and down the country, including in Washington, where penalty hero Jordan Pickford hails from, Chingford where golden boot winner Harry Kane grew up, as well as in Gareth Southgate's hometown of Crawley.

Trippier was one of the standout stars as the Three Lions reached the last four of the World Cup before being knocked out by Croatia.

He became only the third English player in history to score in a World Cup semi-final when his fifth minute free-kick gave his side the lead.

Whether the 27-year-old, who was raised in Summerseat and now plays his club football for Tottenham Hotspur, will actually put the space to use remains to be seen, but it is sure to catch the eye of visitors to the store over the coming weeks.

Christian Härtnagel, the CEO of Lidl UK said: “We're delighted to be able to show our appreciation to Gareth and the incredible England team by celebrating in their local Lidl. As the official supermarket of the England Football Team we have been supporting the players for a number of years and, along with many others, feel very proud of what they’ve achieved.”

Lidl’s ‘Dream Big with Lidl’ campaign brings together both the supermarket’s backing of the England team and Lidl’s grassroots initiative ‘FA Lidl Skills’, which has created 3 million opportunities for 5-11 year olds to play football over the last three years.

Throughout the tournament, Lidl has been shining a light on the local communities that have helped shape the team and its players, including former teachers, coaches and mentors.

The ‘Dream Big’ player story series delved into where some of England’s top stars began their football dreams, with interviews from those who played a part in their journey, helping them to reach their goal of putting on the Three Lions shirt.

The series featured Kyle Walker, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, and Ashley Young.
