AN ARTIST has produced a collection to capture moments in time from fusiliers' and veterans' perspectives to mark the 50th anniversary of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

Siobhan Lewis's work will feature in the 'Fusilier 50 — Fusiliers, Moments In Time' exhibition which will go on display at the Fusilier Museum in Bury later this month.

The artwork itself has been created from photographs sent in by current serving and veteran fusiliers and their families, spanning the last 50 years.

The works, in a variety of mediums including ink, acrylic, pencil, pastel and pen, were created on behalf of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

Professional artist Ms Lewis, who works out of her studio at the Fusilier Museum, said: "This is not 'war art'. There are wonderful artists who capture this out there already, many of them having been in our armed forces.

"This exhibition is, as it says, 'moments in time' — those moments captured by fusiliers, not the battles or really even the formal events. It is their chosen memories — that I have tried to bring to life in my artwork.

"I love history and art so for me this really has been the most amazing time. The stories the fusiliers have told me have often humbled me and made me even more determined to make these works represent this amazing Regiment."

Ms Lewis won the prestigious Society for All Artists (SAA) Amateur Artist of the Year award in 2015, with her portrait ‘Irish Eyes’ which went on to poll the most public votes ever received at the London Art Exhibition.

She was commissioned to produce 10 piece of work for the Moments In Time collection which will featured in the framed exhibition but has handed all artist rights over to the museum.

It is possible that some of the works will be auctioned off to help raise money.

Several businesses have sponsored the framing of the art, including gold sponsors Jeremy Buckley Properties and Roman Summer Associates.

The framed exhibition will open to the public in the museum's upstairs gallery on Saturday, July 28. There will be a special opening on Sunday 29.

Ms Lewis will be on hand to meet people and talk about her work.

She said: "Painting for me makes sense of the world. My art speaks for me when so often words fail me.

"I feel privileged to be able to participate in this exhibition, and to help celebrate and commemorate this year of Fusilier 50 taking place for the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers."
