A SECTION of Lower Bridgeman Street in Bolton town centre remains closed off after a car smashed into some scaffolding.

A white Seat Leon hit a black Range Rover, causing it to veer off the road into the scaffolding tower, police said.

A cordon remains in place around the Range Rover and the road is reduced to one lane.

While the vehicle sustained damage during the incident, shortly before 2pm on Tuesday, the driver escaped without injury.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called to Lower Bridgeman Street just before 2pm to reports of a collision.

"A white Seat Leon hit the Range Rover and caused it to veer into the scaffolding.

"The council have been contacted to remove the scaffolding."

The driver of the Range Rover said he has been asked to leave his vehicle in situ until workers have secured the scaffolding.
