RAMSBOTTOM’S new plastic-free shop has thrown its support behind a campaign challenging youngsters to think about reducing plastic waste.
Plentiful (formerly Fulfilled) is set to open in Silver Street at the beginning of next month, but will invite schoolchildren along on Friday, August 24 for an open day.
The shop’s owner, Abbie Sellers, has decided to host the event to help youngsters taking part in Bury North MP James Frith’s summer project, where pupils at schools in the area are asked to come up with innovative ways of reducing plastic waste.
The shop will be open from 10am-2pm so that youngsters can speak to Ms Sellers about the project and find out more about what happens to plastic products.
There will also be a number of fun tasks designed to teach youngsters about single-use plastics.
Straws and toothbrushes will be on sale, as well as a number of other plastic free items.
Ms Sellers, who lives in Tottington, said: “It is so important for young people to learn about reducing plastic waste because without them being on board, the next generation could make the same mistakes as previous ones.”
