Conwy council are seeking expressions of interests to redevelop an important site in Rhos-on-Sea.

Rhos Point has been left vacant for some time and now Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) are seeking someone to breath new life back into the site.

An open tender process this month will seek out proposals for the site from interested parties wanting to develop a commercial facility.

The development must be non-residential and must support year-round employment opportunities.

The prominence of the site, the listed Toll House, and proximity to the Rhos on Sea conservation area will require a high degree of sensitivity in the design and profile of any buildings.

Applicants will also need to consider the results of the community consultation from 2012.

Cabinet member for economic development, cllr Louise Emery, said: “This is a really exciting development opportunity.

"It’s an area with a unique sense of place, enjoyed by residents and visitors alike, and we’re looking forward to see what proposals come forward.”

Readers took to social media last week to have their say on what they think should be developed on Rhos Point.

Suggestions included a pier, a new restaurant, a garden with seating or a car park.

Willi Trace Wills, on the Pioneer Facebook page, said: "Maybe update the pier point past the barrier so folks can sit out, walk and enjoy the Rhos sea air.

"Even though the Colwyn pier is going to be updated they have a choice, I suggest a little bit like York with sea pebbled pedestrian areas to walk in and local produce and market shops.

"As an old Rhos resident that knows it like it is seeing an opportunity for an update this would suit Llandrillo-yn-Rhos.

"Lets hope whatever funding they get is money well spent."
