NOMINATIONS have poured in as residents put forward their favourite pubs to receive an award.

MP for Bury North, James Frith, urged people to nominate their best-loved local for the prestigious Parliamentary Pub of the Year award.

The 25 nominees are now being put out to a public vote to whittle them down to the top five.

Mr Frith will then visit each pub and invite locals to make the case for each boozer before holding a final vote to determine the official Bury North nomination for the award.

The award, supported by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), focuses on celebrating pubs in our community. The main criteria for nomination is a pub that is great at what they do. This can include the range of beer or food provided, the dedication to serving the local community or a specialism in music or sports.

In total, 157 nominations were made, with favourite pubs covering the Bury, Tottington and Ramsbottom areas.

Mr Frith said: "I’m delighted that so many people responded to my call to find the best local boozer.

"The list of nominees includes many of our best local pubs and I urge all punters to vote to help me narrow down the list for the next stage."

Residents of Bury North can vote at jamesfrith.org/puboftheyear2018. The vote will close on Friday, September 7.
