WOODHEY High School was all smiles as the school celebrated another year of exceptional GCSE results.

Overall, more than 10 per cent of pupils attained at least one grade 9, while 43 per cent secured the coveted English Baccalaureate.

Headteacher Brian Roadnight said: “We are absolutely delighted with Woodhey’s results this summer. Our pupils and staff have continued to rise to the challenge of the new reformed GCSEs and their achievements are as good as any in recent years."

The school’s top achiever was star pupil Emma Rothwell whose results included an exceptional six grade nines.

Emma is now set to start at Holy Cross College in September where she will study A levels in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics.

Also beaming after receiving her results was Megan Burrows who was praised by the school’s headteacher Brian Roadnight as one of the pupils to make the most progress to secure results including three 9s.

She will now also head off to Holy Cross and hopes to become a nutritionist in the future.

Mr Roadnight also extended congratulations to the school’s top performers Emma Rothwell and Zaman Ul-Haq, who attained 12 grade 9s between them, and celebrated the “excellent progress” made by pupils Rachel Scarth, Sam Ellithorn, Eleanor Heib, Tom Trulio and Megan Heylings.
