THREE Bury restaurants have been named among the best in the country.

The official Good Food Guide was released yesterday - and popular Ramsbottom eateries Levanter and Baratxuri, and One Eighty Eight, in Whitefield, have been included on the coveted list.

Baratxuri, a Basque-style pintxo bar, and Levanter, an authentic Spanish tapas bar, both owned by husband and wife Fiona and Joe Botham, were included in last year's list and have retained their spots again this year.

After hearing the news, Fiona said: "We’re thrilled to retain our listings for Levanter and Baratxuri.

"It means such a lot to us, especially as our guests have again recommended us for inclusion, and we thank them for all their continued custom and support ever since we opened.

"It’s also a wonderful achievement for our fantastic teams who work so hard to deliver the consistently high standards that the judges need to see to enable you to keep your spot each year."

Meanwhile, it is the second time One Eighty Eight has made the list. The Bury New Road restaurant only opened last year, and was included in the 2017 list despite only having been open a matter of months.

Lee Richardson, co-owner at One Eighty Eight, said: "We are delighted to be recognised again. It was a great honour last year, and to get it two years on the trot shows we are doing something right."

The trio are joined on the list by an array of popular Manchester restaurants, including the region's top scoring restaurant, Adam Reid at The French, in Manchester, which, coming in at 13 nationally, was the region’s only representative in the list's top 50.

Bury-born chef Mary-Ellen McTague has also made the Good Food Guide with her new restaurant The Creameries.

The Chorlton-based restaurant is joined by fellow new entries to the guide: 20 Stories, Manchester; Indique, Manchester; Mi & Pho, Manchester; and Bombay to Mumbai, in Stockport.

The Good Food Guide 2019, compiled by high street giant Waitrose and partners, ranks the top places to dine in the UK.

It is compiled by combining reader feedback on restaurants up and down the country with anonymous inspections by a team of industry experts.
