THE people have spoken - and Carl Jacobs is our top local artist!
Visitors to Bury Art Gallery were asked to vote for their favourite picture in the annual exhibition by Bury Art Society.
Carl won the "people's prize" for his painting Cefalu 2, Italy, with 16 votes out of the 297 cast. Stan Evans came second with Dad's in Charge, Cornwall Beach, with Wright Platt third with Fresh Snowfall.
People's tastes in Bury obviously vary widely, as almost everything in the exhibition picked up a vote, which explains the relatively small winning score.
As far as the official judges were concerned, their favourite was another work by Wright Platt, his Old Hawthorn winning their Millennium Award.
There are 104 pictures in the show, depicting scenes from Holcombe and Affetside to sunnier vistas abroad, along with portraits and more abstract work.
The society was formed in 1949 and has held an annual show for more than 50 years. Its second president was L.S. Lowry.
Residents have until today (Saturday) to view the exhibition. The Moss Street gallery is open from Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm.
