Hospice gets hi-tech grant

BURY Hospice will have all the latest technology thanks to a grant worth £4,500.

For the money will be used to buy eight PCs and four laptops, as well as a Sony PlayStation games console.

The new IT facilities will enable the Radcliffe-based hospice to upgrade the computers in the clinical areas to provide direct access to the NHS system, receive patient notes and test results more quickly, and allow access to palliative care research.

One of the PCs will be placed in the newly-refurbished day hospice and the games console will be based in the family area for children visiting their relatives.

The grant has been provided by the DSG International Foundation, on behalf of DSG International (DSGI), which runs Dixons, Currys and PC World.

Malcolm Edis, DSGI's in-house solicitor, said: "Bury Hospice carries out admirable work for the community and DSGI Business and its staff are delighted to be able to help the hospice in this practical way."

Elizabeth Houghton, chief executive of the Dumers Lane hospice, said: "We are very grateful to the DSG Foundation for this generous and practical donation at a time when it is so important for us to be well-connected to the information highway' and communicating effectively. The equipment for patients and the PlayStation will bring countless hours of entertainment and enjoyment for patients and visitors."
