FOOTBALL fans are hoping it will be third time lucky as Bury-based club FC United of Manchester host its kids go free day at Gigg Lane this Saturday.

Earlier this season, the reds twice organised days where under 18s could get free entry a game, but were hampered by the weather and other snags, which resulted in postponements.

But it's all systems go for this weekend - and organisers are hoping families from all over the borough will join in with the fun as United taken on top of the league Bamber Bridge.

Community development volunteer Vinny Thompson said: "We were very disappointed that the weather got in the way last time we tried to organise this fantastic event, especially as we had to let down so many groups at short notice.

"But everything is in place for Saturday and we are looking forward to welcoming a wide range of groups from all over Bury and Greater Manchester for a great day of football and a top of the table clash."

FC United was formed in July 2005 in protest at issues like high ticket prices at top level football grounds.

Its members have voted to keep ticket prices low and this will be the third season running that young fans have been allowed in free for a game.

But it's not just the football that will be on offer. The fun starts at Bethesda Church, Park Hills Road, at 12.30pm when drama and theatre workshops take place until 2.30pm.

Each under 18 attending will get a goody bag and a free team poster. There will be free fair-trade snacks, a Co-op healthy-cooking demonstration and, at half time, a martial arts demonstration.

Dozens of junior football clubs and community organisations are due to attend. They include: The Mosses Centre, Bury Church Alliance, Jigsaw, East Bury FC, Tottington United, Walshaw Sports, Brandlesholme FC, Elton FC, Prestwich Maruaders and Radcliffe Town.

Mr Thompson added: "A lot of young people now don't get the opportunity to watch affordable live football at 3pm on a Saturday so we want to give them that chance and hopefully they will keep coming back for more.

"We want as many people as possible to come up for the game. It's a vital game to United's promotion hopes and hopefully, the fans can cheer them to a big victory."

FC United v Bamber Bridge starts at 3pm this Saturday. Entry for under 18s is free and costs £7.50 for adults and £5 for over 60s.
