Appeal for help to clear eyesore lodges

NEGLECTED lodges filled with wheelie bins and shopping trollies are set to be transformed into a beauty spot.

For members of the community hope to continue their work after cleaning up a nearby walkway.

Abbey Close Tenants' and Residents' Association (TRA) decided to do something about the walkway, which runs behind homes in Coronation Gardens, Radcliffe, after noticing how neglected it had become. The original fencing had been torn down and there were piles of rubbish.

The area has now been cleared and a new fence erected.

It was paid for using funding worth £7,335 from Six Town Housing, Radcliffe Local Area Partnership, and Bury Council.

After the success of the project, the TRA has decided to clear some lodges next to the walkway.

They are filled with all kinds of rubbish, making the area an eyesore and a danger to wild birds, who have previously become trapped.

As well as cleaning the water, the TRA hopes to install waste bins, benches and perhaps a woodland play area.

They already have support from Radcliffe Primary School, Radcliffe Angling Society and Bury Council. However, the TRA hopes that local people will also help to transform the area into a beauty spot.

Donna Cartwright, community involvement officer for Six Town Housing, said: "The lodges need a good clean-up. The area has been neglected over the years, but it could really look nice. It has a lot of potential.

"We're hoping that the community will get involved, because this is on their back-door step.

"The more people who get involved, the more successful it will be."
