Working for the good of the town

Kevan Whitehead, borough commander, Bury, says: "The fire service in Bury has a strong relationship with the Bury Times and recognise their significant assistance in helping us to make Bury a safer place to live. It truly is a community focused paper and deals with the matters important to people who live, work or travel through Bury. Together we help to inform and educate the community about fire safety and in the process protect them.

"We achieve this by working extremely closely in an ethical and trusting business relationship with senior reporter, Terry Morgan, who has invested significant time and effort to better understand the fire and rescue service, its aims, vision and frustrations.

"We may never completely eradicate accidental fires . . . but that doesn't mean, with the assistance of the Bury Times, we shouldn't strive for such an aspirational target.

Ivan Lewis MP, Bury South, says: "The Bury Times Group of Newspapers offer a high quality and balanced news coverage relevant to the people living in the communities which make up the borough of Bury.

They also make a major contribution to the strength and solidarity of our community by supporting and highlighting the work of the community groups, charities, sports organisations and local heroes.

"We are very fortunate to have such a responsible newspaper group serving our local communities."

Mark Sanders, Chief Executive, Bury Council, says: "Bury deserves a local newspaper that is trusted, has integrity, and is responsive to the community it serves.

"I'm happy to say that the Bury Times Group fulfils this function admirably, and Local Newspaper Week is an excellent way of publicising its work."

Chief Superintendent Jon Rush, commander of Bury police, says: "It's important for police to work closely with local newspapers, as they help us to communicate key messages to our communities.

"Local newspapers are an invaluable way to keep local residents up to date on criminal activity, appeals and initiatives. Intelligence we get back from the public helps us to solve crimes and bring more offenders to justice."
